Goodreads asked Red Rohl:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Red Rohl I've always have a million and one ideas for characters and books but, could never settle on one and see it through. To help me get organized, I took all the old sketches I had saved since I was a kid and copied them into spiral bound "books." I shared them with my 4th grade class with the idea of using them in our school "store." The students went crazy for them. Their reaction inspired me to compile them all together with stories to create Heavy Sketches. As a teacher, I've found the book to be a great resource. The illustrations draw the kids in, and before they know it, they're reading. Pretty sneaky.
