Goodreads asked Lynn Lipinski:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Lynn Lipinski I wrote this book after I had been working in global Internet governance for four years. I learned a lot about the underpinnings of this amazing global network that we depend on for so many things, and I learned how vulnerable those systems are. I wanted to write the story of what would happen if some of the worst case scenarios I heard about came true. We’d already heard about the Stuxnet worm that destroyed centrifuges at an Iranian uranium enrichment plant. And since I wrote the book, cybercriminals stole $81 million from Bangladesh’s Central Bank and another $9 million from a bank in Ecuador. These hacks are totally possible and could happen anywhere.
