Jen asked Jason M. Hough:

Did you choose the lyrics from "Operation Mindcrime" as Caswell's relaxing phrase because of their association with assassination in the album, or was it just a cool tribute to Queensryche?

Jason M. Hough Great question!

A bit of trivia I suppose: the first draft of the book used a line from a Marillion song (all of my books have a Marillion reference of some kind). However, it was purely just chosen because it sounded cool, and carried no extra meaning in terms of the story. I knew as soon as I put it in there that I wanted to change it to something better.
Later I thought of Mindcrime, for the reason you mentioned but also because of what is happening to Caswell in the grander scheme of things. It fit really well and I thought the readers who are familiar with the album would get a kick out of it.
