Richard Phillips Hi Jessica. My military career certainly helps when I am writing combat scenes and by the fact that Carol and I lived all over the world. But I think anything you are familiar with can help. Regardless, it is necessary to double check things. Luckily Wikipedia, Google, and Google Earth are great helps in this regard.
