Ariel Silverstein
Ariel Silverstein asked Bernie Morris:

Do you think realistic fiction novels sometimes romanticise topics like mental health, terminal illness and addiction? I'm a student currently writing my EPQ and would love to hear your opinion on the topic. Thank you for your time!

Bernie Morris I wouldn't say 'romanticised' at least not those that I have read. I would say that 'the truth comes out' when a person knows that they have no hope, and so they try to tell it from their POV -- and maybe to save others from despair. In the case of illness, I think if you know you are going to die, then you definitely want to get your message 'out there'. In the case of addiction, while there is still hope, you would still want to get your message 'out there', so maybe this would be more of a 'cry for help'. I really don't know, but I hope so.
