My advice is to write, and then write some more. And when you're done with that get back to writing. Even if you're not the best writer you'll get better just by doing.
And write for yourself not other people. I personally don't think you should start chasing trends. Write what you're deeply into. Writing is hard, why make it harder by writing about things you don't care about?
