Hi Seth. Thanks for this book. I have a question. Did I miss it, or was the significance of what the soldier left it in the well (a knife, I believe?) never revealed?

There aren't enough clues in the book to figure out what he left in the well; my feeling there is that it's a part of another story overlapping with this novel's, a completely separate narrative that runs into Baru's. I like the sense that there's more than one story happening in this world, I like the incompleteness and uncertainty of only seeing a piece of it.

Not a question, but I hadn't found another way to contact you, since your Twitter account is deleted. And apparently I can't even submit this unless it contains a question mark, which wow? Reading the Acknowledgements at the end of Tyrant, it seems like you are struggling. I get that, and I was moved to say that here is someone who cares very deeply about the stories you are telling. Please don't give up.

Hi, Seth. I was reading through the grimoire anthologies and realised you were the first to bring up the final shape as a concept in the the books of sorrow. So it got me wondering, was the final shape already floating around the writers room before that or was it something you invented for the taken king? And if so, what was your original idea of what the final shape would be?
