Goodreads asked Scott Baker Sweeney:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Scott Baker Sweeney My working title for Cheat River Three was ‘The Tales of Eugene’ and it began as a biography, but quickly evolved into a novel. This change of genre was out of the respect for and at the wishes of my father. This was not the first book my father was in, you can read some of his (Eugene Baker’s) exploits in Jim Dent’s book The Junction Boys. For the record, Dad insists that the chapter devoted to him was totally inaccurate and one sided. Be that as it may, he was worried that I might be a little more rough about other dubious events in his life, so I changed many of the characters names and went from biography to novel. >He agreed with the change!
I can tell you that you that most of the wild tales in my novel, Cheat River Three really happened, and yes that includes Eugene swinging naked from a chandelier over the head of Senator Robert Byrd!
