Sigh, ready to start reading your web instruction books, lol, I miss your writing!!! Still hoping for a Mount Char sequel. Any stirrings?

Hey Leslie,
Believe me when I say that I wish I had more for you.
I spent about a year after Mount Char got published working on another book that eventually died on the vine, as it were. I had something like 150,000 words of beginning and middle. I showed the first three or four chapter to five or six people--wife, agent, trusted beta readers. No one straight-up hated it, but it's fair to say the reaction was "lukewarm."
Eventually we all agreed that it would be best not to put out something substandard. Ouch. So I kind of gritted my teeth, scrapped a year or so worth of work, and moved on to something else.
That's where I'm at now. I don't want to jinx it, but so far so good.
As far as more Librarians--I just don't know. A full-on sequel might be tough to do well. What I'm thinking is I might do some prequel short stories featuring the librarians who didn't get as much page time in the book. I've got one concrete idea for that.

part 2 Did you know that for first people hunter-gatherers, animals they hunt become their first gods, partly from the guilt of killing them as empathy reliever ( eating flesh of a god, becoming, evoving etc)? I'm a Joseph Campbell fan so your theory blew my mind :) Congrats, your new fan :)

I cannot overstate how much I enjoyed Mount Char. I've been shuffling around in an existential fog for a coupla hours since finishing it...thanks for that! Curious to know the inspiration for planes of reality being rooted in emotion (i.e. plane of anguish) when most other fantastical happenings are explained rather scientifically by Carolyn?
