Goodreads asked Ed McDonald:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Ed McDonald Go out and do something. Mostly, for me, writer's block is a result of sitting inside without having spoken to people or seen anything that doesn't lie in the 10 feet triangle between my bed, the kitchen and my computer.

I maintain a day job 3 days per week more or less entirely because I need to get out of the house.

Failing everything else? Just think about what you want to write, not what you need to write, and write that. If the plot's not doing what you want, change it. Change it a lot. Break it open completely, even if it leads somewhere that you didn't intend. That's ok. You can wrestle it back into shape later.
