Goodreads asked Michael Finocchiaro:

Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?

Michael Finocchiaro I would have to say I have several favorite fictional couples:
1/ Leopold and Molly Bloom of Joyce's Ulysses because despite the fact we never see them together, they are such well-developed characters and Molly's monologue in Episode 18 "Penelope" is one of the most beautiful chapter I have ever read.
2/ Kit Traverse and Dahlia Rideout in Against the Day by Thomas Pynchon because I was totally jealous of Kit and crazy about Dahlia and loved how Pynchon wrote their stories. I took a lot of inspiration from this book (and all of Pynchon's work) in writing Sophie's Playlist.
3/ Mickey Sabbath and Drenka in Sabbath's Theater by Philip Roth because despite their depravity, there was true love between them and probably was the only true love that either of these characters ever truly gave and received.
4/ Jay Gatsby and Daisy Fay Buchanon in The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald because no list of couples would not be complete without that of the fatal encounter between the Great Gatsby and his literal femme fatale, Daisy.
