Jeffrey Quyle
The first couple that came to mind were Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin, from Patrick O'Brian's brilliant historical fiction series about the British navy in the Napoleonic War era. The 'bromance' that these two share over the course of many volumes and many fictional years covers the range of emotions from love and affection and deep concern and well-intentioned meddling to anger, jealousy, and disappointment. The writing of the novels is brilliant, the language powerful, and the realism of the plots is so informative of the days when navies sailed by wind and cunning.
