Hello! I see that you have a Goodreads interview coming up, and thought I'd ask a question. I really enjoyed " Snowflower and the Secret Fan," and am looking forward to reading your new book. The first was set in China, and the second features Chinese characters. Would you consider writing a historical novel set in a different culture?

I'm doing a lot of apologizing today as I try to answer these Goodreads questions. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to write back!
I've now written ten books. All of them have had to do with China or the Chinese American experience. The novel I'm now writing takes place on an island off of South Korea. It's a very different culture in some ways, but its also the most Confucian of all the Asian countries. In that way, it's very familiar.

I am not a Confucius fan, nor do i intend to be rude, but the introduction for Lady Tan's Circle of Women, "According to Confucius, 'an educated woman is a worthless woman'", is very wrong. I believe this saying is the translation of "女子無才便是德", which was NOT said/written by him. In fact, it was introduced in the Ming Dynasty...and had very little to do with Confucius. If possible, can you make some modifications?

Ms. See, I'd like to thank you for bringing such joy into my life through your stunning work. All have transported me to beautiful places. As a Latina-American, I especially appreciate your focus on women of color, as our stories so often go untold. As for my question: will TTGoHL have a sequel?

Just finished "Lady Tan" and really enjoyed it. I didn't know anything about this time in Chinese history before, but this book has really piqued my interest and fascination. Also, a friend who practices traditional Chinese medicine miraculously cured my sciatica a few years ago with acupuncture. I'm wondering what interesting things you may have learned about it in your studies or if it's in your other books? Thx!
