After much thought, I'd say Jennet Stearne and Ben Franklin in James Morrow's marvelous historical satire, The Last Witch Finder. Yes, Benjamin Franklin is a real historical personage, but in this work of fiction he as a young man has a wild love affair with the fictional heroine. I love this book and heartily recommend it for its humor, its truth, and its absolute brilliance.
