Goodreads asked L.L. McNeil:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

L.L. McNeil The original idea for Moroda came to me when I was about 16. I hand wrote a good chunk of the story on separate sheets of plain paper (I wish I could find them! I've moved house so many times since, I fear they're forever lost), and promptly forgot about the idea.

I've taken part in NaNo (National Novel Writing Month) for a few years now, and in 2014, stuck for an idea, I thought to the story and began writing. 50,000 words of the first draft were written in November 2014, and I continued writing until I finished the story in April 2015, at about 75,000 words. Since then I've been revising and editing until publication!
