“آقای کزینگ معلم ریاضی مدتی از دست من عصبانی بود برای اینکه مرتب سر کلاس حرف می‌زدم و پس از هشدارهای پیاپی بالاخره جریمه شدم. باید انشایی تحت عنوان «وراج» می‌نوشتم. چه مطلبی می‌شد راجع به وراج نوشت؟ خلاصه دفترم را گذاشتم در کیفم و سعی کردم آرام باشم. شب بعد از انجام همه تکالیفم چشمم افتاد به این انشا. در حالی که ته خودکارم در دهانم می‌جویدم به این موضوع هم فکر می‌کردم. هر کس می‌توانست یک مشت چرندیات به هم ببافد و با گشاد گشاد نوشتن ورقه را پر کند، اما هنر من این بود که استدلال قانع کننده‌ای برای صحبت کردن پیدا کنم. از بس فکر کردم ناگهان مطلبی به سرم زد و سه صفحه را پر کردم و از خودم بسیار راضی بودم. استدلال کردم که پر حرفی از خصوصیات خانم‌ها است و من تمام سعی‌ام را می‌کنم تا خودم را بیشتر کنترل کنم، اما هیچگاه نمی‌توانم این عادت را ترک کنم، چرا که مادرم هم حداقل به اندازه من و یا بیشتر از من پر حرف است و انسان نمی‌تواند خصوصیات موروثی خودش را تغییر دهد.

آقای کزینگ از استدلال من خیلی خنده‌اش گرفت اما وقتی که در کلاس بعدی حرف زدن سر کلاس را از سر گرفتم، برای بار دوم جریمه‌ام کرد. این بار موضوع انشا چنین بود: «یک وراج اصلاح ناپذیر». این موضوع را هم نوشتم و به معلمم دادم و او نیز در دو جلسه بعدی چیزی به من نگفت. اما در جلسه سوم وقتی آقای کزینگ دید باز مشغول صحبتم، به من گفت شورش را در آورده‌ام و افزود: «آن فرانک، به عنوان جریمع انشایی با این عنوان بنویسید: خانم وراج باز هم قار قار کرد.»
همه بچه‌ها زدند زیر خنده. من هم خندیدم ولی دیگر راجع به این سوژه فکرم به جایی قد نمی‌داد. باید موضوعی تخیلی پیدا می‌کردم. دوستم سانه که شاعر با استعدادی است به من پیشنهاد داد تا انشا ارا بصورت شعر بنویسم. خیلی خوشحال شدم. با این انشای مسخره کزینگ می‌خواست مرا خیط کند، ولی با این شعر من بودم که او را خیط می‌کردم.
شعر خیلی خوبی از آب درآمد! راجع به یک قو و یک مرغابی بود که سه فرزند اردک داشتند. از بس که آن‌ها صدا در می‌آوردند و قار قار می‌کردند پدرشان یعنی قو آن‌ها را کشت. خوشبختانه کزینگ این شوخی را بد نگرفت و آن را در کلاس خواند و تفسیر هم کرد و حتی آن شعر را به کلاس‌های دیگر هم داد. از آن پس اجازه‌ی حرف زدن داشتم و جریمه هم نمی‌شدم و کزیگ همیشه مثال مرا برای مزاح مطرح می‌کرد.”
