“Achieving something is difficult, but keeping it requires even more wisdom
We all have a goal in life. We carry within us the desire to achieve something, in business, in our personal lives, in sports, or through a hobby that touches our heart. Some people spend years trying to reach it, while others move forward more quickly because of talent, experience, or because they were born into a family where knowledge, support, and resources are available. Yet there are also people who make a great effort and have enough ability, but never receive the right chance or opportunity to turn their wish into reality. Everyone depends on the circumstances in which he or she lives, on the opportunities that appear, on the knowledge that is available, and on the doors that do or do not open. No one knows in advance which setbacks, obstacles, or unexpected events will appear along the road to success, fulfilment, or possession. We can suddenly move from one surprise to another, with both good fortune and hardship. The person who gives up will usually never reach the goal, while the one who perseveres will try to use every opportunity to come closer to the desired dream. What we want to achieve can require a long road filled with sorrow, pain, tension, hope, and passion. Still, small improvements can give us renewed strength. They allow us to feel that progress is possible and that we may continue believing our wish can one day become reality. Our interest, willingness, and inspiration grow when we see that our efforts have not been in vain. Our self worth also becomes stronger when we discover that we are making progress and that our dream is no longer living only in our thoughts, but is moving closer to real life. When the moment finally arrives and our wish becomes reality, we may feel like a king or queen. We are proud, happy, and full of deep emotion, because something that once seemed far beyond our reach now truly belongs to our life. We have become the owner of a wish that may have lived in our heart for many years. We succeeded through perseverance, effort, faith, and all the sweat that was not always seen by others. After everything we have gone through, we may think life will now become easier. Yet that is exactly when we discover that a new task begins, namely keeping what we have achieved. Gaining something is difficult, but securing and protecting it can be even more difficult. We may have become the owner of our wish, but every thoughtless decision, wrongly signed document, act of negligence, or failure to fulfil legal or personal responsibilities can have serious consequences. Through one careless moment, something we worked on for years can suddenly slip out of our hands again. Then joy can turn into a waterfall of tears, because we realize that possession not only requires strength to achieve it, but also wisdom, responsibility, and caution to keep it. For as difficult as it is to possess something, it can be just as easy to lose it through one wrong step or through careless policy of our own.
