“I have come to realise that my life is cyclic. I go through years of nonachievement usually involving a lot of habitual alcohol drinking. I would not define it is a total lack of motivation, as I am just more motivated to drink. Then I will get angry with myself and spark up and start living my life like it is an artform. This usually involves meditation, exercise, and sobriety or at least a reduction in my drinking. At these times of heightened existence, I often meet a beautiful girl. Then slowly but surely, I slip back into the drinking and then nonachievement. I lose the beautiful girlfriend. Years later the whole cycle repeats itself again. Why do I do this? I would have to say boredom. I do it by choice, you see. I enjoy the times of clarity and achievement and love, just as I do the lazy days and nights of drinking. I simply cannot choose to be sober my entire life. And contrary to expert opinion I think that this process increases my creative output as a writer. Sure, I cannot write when I am drinking as I get older but the whole thing of having a blowout appears to bring me back to the present moment and clears and opens my mind creatively.”
