“What are you doing?" my mom asked. One side of her mouth curled up.
"I'm trying to move that cup."
My parents laughed. I concentrated on the coffee cup, but it didn't budge.
"I guess I'll have to work on this telekinesis thing. It'll come in handy when Ben is hogging the TV remote and forcing me to watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the fifty-millionth time.”

“I'd take telekinesis. I could move things with my mind, and with telepathy I could control other people's minds and make them do whatever I wanted.”

“You don't need to use your hand to Push," Gemmel grumbled at him. "Wastes time.”

“While Grandma Welker didn't come right out and accuse Katie of being a witch, or something worse, it was easy to see that she wasn't comfortable around her.”

“She had heard about telekinetic phenomena. Where she had heard about it she didn't know, but she knew telekinesis was the ability to move objects by thinking about them. She felt thrilled with the possibilities of her newfound power.
She wondered if she could move larger things, too. She glanced at the Dumpster, narrowed her eyes in concentration, and strained. The side of the Dumpster buckled with a sharp pop. She gasped. Could she bend objects, too?
A noise like rattling chains startled her, and she peered back down the alley. Justin and Mason were shaking the double gate in the fence as if they were trying to break the chain lock. She turned back to the trash piled at the dead end and raised her hands like a great conductor of an orchestra. Soon lettuce leaves, orange peels, coffee grounds, and papers were flying everywhere. With a flick of her wrists, the garbage bounced away from her, heading for Justin and Mason.”

“With my temporary malfunctioning powers, I somehow felt empty, as if a vital part of me had escaped. I never realized how hollow I’d feel without my abilities. It almost felt like I had a phantom limb; I could feel it there, but I couldn’t do anything with it.”

“You should have taken her car registration.” Vanessa looked after the car. “Then we’d at least have her name.”
“Too late now,” Serena said, feeling defeated.
“It’s never too late,” Tianna said with confidence, her eyes narrowing in concentration as she pushed out with her telekinetic power to the fast-moving car.
At the corner the Lexus slowed, then hitched, its frame seeming to shudder as it came to a stop in the middle of the street. The back tires spun, peeling off a layer of rubber and churning blue smoke into the air.
“We should have used Tianna in the first place,” Jimena said to Serena as they ran toward the car.
“Don’t lie to me,” Serena answered, breathless. “I know you wanted to see if you could still jack a car. I can read your mind. Remember?”
Jimena smiled sheepishly.”
