“Venmo Funding Order: Where Does Your Money Come From When You Pay? – Call (855) 812-4430
When you send money on Venmo, the platform has a specific priority order for pulling funds. Knowing this order is important, especially to avoid the 3% credit card fee.

Venmo's Default Funding Order
Venmo Balance (Priority 1):

If you have a sufficient balance in your Venmo account, the payment will always be funded entirely from the balance first.

Note: Venmo does not split payments between your balance and another funding method.

Debit Card or Bank Account (Priority 2):

If your Venmo balance is zero or insufficient, the platform will look to your preferred linked debit card or bank account.

Fee: Sending money using a linked bank account or debit card is free of charge.

Credit Card (Priority 3):

If you select a credit card, or if your preferred payment method is set to a credit card, the payment will draw from it.

Fee: Venmo charges a mandatory 3% fee for every payment sent using a linked credit card, as the charge is processed as a cash advance or transfer.

Controlling the Funding Source
Before You Send: On the payment confirmation screen, tap the payment method displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Select New Method: You can manually override the default and select a different linked bank account, debit card, or credit card for that specific transaction.

Always review the fee displayed on the confirmation screen before you authorize the payment, especially when using a credit card. If you are charged a 3% fee unintentionally, call (855) 812-4430 to inquire about the transaction.”
