“As the steamer continued the crossing, Pandora tugged off her left glove to admirer wedding ring, as she'd already done a dozen times that day. Gabriel had chosen a loose sapphire from the collection of Challon family jewels, and had it set in a gold and diamond ring mounting. The Ceylon sapphire, cut and polished into a smooth dome, was a rare stone that gleamed with a twelve-ray star instead of six. To his satisfaction, Pandora seemed inordinately pleased by the ring, and was fascinated by the way the star seemed to move across the surface of the sapphire. The effect, called asterism, was especially noticeable in the sunlight.
"What causes the star?" Pandora asked, as she tilted her hand this way and that.
Gabriel tucked a kiss behind the soft lobe of her ear. "A few tiny imperfections," he murmured, "that make it all the more beautiful.”

“Oh my. Molly put her hand to her no-doubt agape mouth. Oh my, oh my, oh my. After her divorce, she hadn’t thought this day would ever come again, but here it was, a second proposal. Life is funny, she thought, and she felt herself step back from the reality of her situation for a moment, lest its emotions overwhelm her and make her swoon like a damsel in those Middle English chivalric romances she taught in 10th-grade English. Yes, life was indeed funny. It had no syllabus, which was why Molly, always a diligent student, felt so unprepared for it. Life played tricks on you too, surprised you, with the biggest surprise that life, even at the nearly half-century mark, could still hold surprises. Like so: There is a man in my kitchen, a man I’m in love with, and he wants to spend the rest of his life with me. How strange and how very unconventional by its conventional, everyday setting.”

“I’ve always thought there was something so incredibly sexy about a wedding ring on a man’s finger. It tells the world he has pledged himself to someone and isn’t afraid to say so. Everyone you meet will know you’re taken. I like that.
Then I’ll never take it off.”

“When the mind is filled with ego,
when the heart is filled with hate,
when the souls are not connected,
when you are at war within,
a big and precious wedding ring

“Rhys shut the door and went to a small box on the desk- then silently handed it to me.
My heart thundered as I opened the lid. The star sapphire gleamed in the candlelight, as if it were one of the Starfall spirits trapped in stone. 'Your mother's ring?'
'My mother gave me that ring to remind me she was always with me, even during the worst of my training. And when I reached my majority, she took it away. It was an heirloom of her family- had been handed down from female to female over many, many years. My sister wasn't yet born, so she wouldn't have known to give it to her, but... My mother gave it to the Weaver. And then she told me that if I were to marry or mate, then the female would either have to be smart or strong enough to get it back. And if the female wasn't either of those things, then she wouldn't survive the marriage. I promised my mother that any potential bride or mate would have the test... And so it sat there for centuries.'
My face heated. 'You said this was something of value-'
'It is. To me, and my family.'
'So my trip to the Weaver-'
'It was vital that we learn if you could detect those objects. But... I picked the object out of pure selfishness.'
'So I won my wedding ring without even being asked if I wanted to marry you.'
'Perhaps.'
I cocked my head. 'Do- do you want me to wear it?'
'Only if you want to.'
'When we go to Hybern... Let's say things go badly. Will anyone be able to tell that we're mated? Could they use that against you?'
Rage flickered in his eyes. 'If they see us together and can scent us both, they'll know.'
'And if I show up alone, wearing a Night Court wedding ring-'
He snarled softly.
I closed the box, leaving the ring inside. 'After we nullify the Cauldron, I want to do it all. Get the bond declared, get married, throw a stupid party and invite everyone in Velaris- all of it.'
Rhys took the box from my hands and set it down on the nightstand before herding me toward the bed. 'And if I wanted to go one step beyond that?'
'I'm listening,' I purred as he laid me on the sheets.”

“He arranged the ceremony for two o'clock in the afternoon a week before she was to leave. The exam had gone well and she was almost certain that she would qualify. Because other couples to be married came with family and friends, their ceremony seemed brisk and over quickly and caused much curiosity among those waiting because they had come alone.
On their journey to Coney Island on the train that afternoon Tony raised the question for the first time of when they might marry in church and live together.
'I have money saved,' he said, 'so we could get an apartment and then move to the house when it's ready.'
'I don't mind,' she said. 'I wish we were going home together now.'
He touched her hand.
'So do I,' he said. 'And the ring looks great on your finger.'
She looked down at the ring.
'I'd better remember to take it off before Mrs Kehoe sees it.'
The ocean was rough and grey and the wind blew white billowing clouds quickly across the sky. They moved slowly along the boardwalk and down the pier, where they stood watching the fishermen. As they walked back and sat eating hot dogs at Nathan's, Eilis spotted someone at the next table checking out her wedding ring. She smiled at herself.
'Will we ever tell our children that we did this?' she asked.”

“He gently grasped her fingers. To touch her again after a week apart was bliss; heat and the faint hum of a current seemed to work its way up his arm to settle in his belly. His body recognized her immediately as need tore swiftly through him, the need to hold her against him and inhale her sweet scent, to feel the beat of her heart. The gold ring held a rose-cut emerald set in the middle of two matching diamonds with a scrollwork band.”

“Simi Chopra, will you marry me?" He opened the blue velvet box in his hand and showed me a beautiful sapphire ring surrounded by diamonds.
My mouth opened, but all that spilled out was, "My brain..."
A frown creased Jack's brow. "Not really the answer I was expecting."
"I can't..." I shook my head. "You organized all this? Chloe? The dress? The car? Trey and all the renovations were real? When did you buy this house? It had to be after I told you I wanted to take a break."
"Yes, it was."
"But how did you know we'd get back together?"
"Because if we weren't meant to be together, I would never have been in the bushes the night you tried to save Chloe in the museum. I wouldn't have held you in my arms and known deep in my bones that I'd met the woman I'd been waiting for all my life... a woman who is intelligent and beautiful and brave and loyal, who has a secret love of adventure and a wicked sense of humor, a woman who lights up every room she walks into and can take a group of misfits and turn them into a family. A woman I want to call my wife." He took the ring out of the box and slid it on my finger. "This was my mother's ring. It is the only thing I have left to remember her by, and there is no one else I have ever wanted to give it to but you."
I looked at the ring and then at the man who had stolen my heart. "Yes, Jack, I'll marry you.”

“She twisted her betrothal ring around her finger. Although the current fashion was for diamond clusters, or colored stones, Harry had bought her a single rose-cut diamond, shaped at the top with facets that mimicked the inner spiral of a rose.
"I asked for something small and simple," she had told Harry when he had given it to her.
"It's simple," he countered.
"But not small."
"Poppy," he had told her with a smile, "I never do anything in a small way.”

“He slid a ring onto the fourth finger of her left hand. It was the most breathtaking ring she had ever seen, a flawless silver opal with flashes of blue and green fire hidden deep inside. With every movement of her hand, the opal glimmered with unearthly color. It was encircled by a rim of glittering small diamonds. "This reminded me of your eyes," he said. "Only not nearly as beautiful.”

“Keeping possession of her hand, he reached into the front welt pocket of his vest. Her eyes widened as she felt him slide something on the ring finger of her left hand, a smooth, cool weight.
Tugging her hand free of his, Cassandra looked down at an astonishing multicolored gem set in a platinum filigree of tiny diamonds. She stared at in wonder, tilting her hand in the light. The breathtaking stone contained flashes of every imaginable color, almost as if tiny flowers had been embedded beneath the surface. "I've never seen anything like this. Is it an opal?"
"It's a new variety, discovered in Australia last year. A black opal.”

“Inside was a pile of photographs, a bottle of perfume, a gold ring with a simple ball-chain through it, the kind of necklace that usually has dog tags on it. Wayne took out the ring and reverently lowered the chain around his neck, letting the wedding band rest on his chest.
“Nice ring, Mr. Frodo.”
Wayne looked up. “It was my mom’s.”

“While I had no desire to be a Cinderella or an Ariel, it would've been nice to have had a ring before the wedding. To have had a wedding with a white dress. To have had some years together in a small rental with thrifted furniture and a couple of houseplants, where our greatest concerns were paying the bills on time and deciding who would be doing the dishes that night.”
