Longtime fave of mine. Had a big argument with my Dad about it.

It looks like the best sort of read - described by someone else as "completely bonkers." Interested as to what the argument between you & your dad entailed!

My dad was a good lefty, who thought the book was unfair to the thugs depicted because it didn't "provide context." I thought (& still think) that attempts to describe human awfulness head-on are rare enough to celebrate when it's done skillfully, even when it doesn't qualify as Responsible Social Science. :)

How'd you find it?

I found it via a Reddit subreddit that was asking people for their all time favorite books. This one was actually listed many, many times.

I've been waiting for it from my local library for approx 3 weeks now! There is only 1 copy but a steady stream of people waiting in line to read it.

I agree with you. I don't know a lot of English thugs, so hard to tell if I will find it fair - but honest depictions into human existences are rare and fascinating. Hopefully I get my hands on it soon
