I haven't read the books but the "mini" series from the 1980s was very popular. (I think it can be found on YouTube.)

I think I'll watch this first then decide on the book (considering it has around 800 pages :) )
Heh, yes, the first volume and then there are two more. I haven't read them because I couldn't find any copies (it hasn't been translated, either) when I was interested in the subject (after I had read Gone with the Wind as a child).
The series has 6 episodes from the first and second book both and they are all 1.5 hours. The series made out of the third book is newer and shorter, and not as good.
Yes, you know any other books similar to Gone with the Wind?
I really feel like reading something set in the Old South.
Not really, though I haven't been looking lately. I do get some recommendations based on GWTW but I don't remember them now. I probably couldn't get hold of them, anyway. Besides, I liked the character Scarlett, I'm not sure if I liked other books just based on that era.
