I tried to read Patricia a long time ago and couldn't get into her writing style. Perhaps now that I'm older I will give her a try again. Thanks!
FWIW I think you should give her another try. :-) IMHO she has a talent for expressing lyrically and vividly in 100 pages what would take many of todays fantasy writers 500 pages. If you're iffy about comitting to a trilogy, you might consider The Forgotten Beasts of Eld or even The Changeling Sea (which is very short).
