David Shepard I am currently reading Get Shorty based on reviews of EL as well as familiarity of many of the works that have been made into film, so it was great to get your take on him. I really struggled with his writing style at the beginning of the book. There is a lot of overlapping characters in a single paragraph, thus I had a hard time following. Midway through the book, I am catching on. I have also started The Moonshine War.

Laura In Leonard's Ten Rules of Writing" he says: "My most important rule is one that sums up the 10: If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it." He also hints: "Try to leave out the part that readers tend to skip."
I've always loved the conversational style of writing. He's like Hemingway but with a sense of humor.

David Shepard The finish was fantastic! I truly enjoyed the twists at the end and was left wanting for more...Which I guess comes with Be Cool!

Laura Also put 'La Brava' on your reading list. Good one, too. I think it's the one that won the Edgar award. But I still like MacDonald better.
