You're very welcome. The books I'm recommending were written long before the current mass-market e-book formula wave came along. Let me know how you get on with them..I may be able to cite some more.
For example, this one The Cloister and the Hearth has everything but supernatural.
If I were you, I'd give especial attention to 'Gormenghast' (my first rec). Its got a really great romance in it between a young girl (a troubled princess, actually) and a 'bad boy'. Most people have never heard of this title, yet its got everything people are currently asking for! And it wasn't just cranked out of someone's *** for the e-reader market!
