I guess this could maybe very loosely be called urban fantasy...? I suspect this is too contemporary for me though. But I also haven't read much horror, excluding vampire novels. How's the writing/language? Readability? Characterization? If those are all good or really good, then it's probably worth it.
Ira Levin was one of the top 2-3 biggest novelists of the 1970s in America. He is a solid writer in the classic tradition. His works were adapted into hit movies which defined the genre. In every category, he is strong. If he released a new book today it would peak the charts. He can write chart-topping books no matter when he publishes. That is the power he demonstrated. A reliable, thoughtful, consistent, shrewd and sensitive writer who is never dated. He is always 'forward-thinking' and observant.
