Main character is a sheriff/former high ranking noble/widower. He has a teenage squire/ward, who he is protecting/hiding, who, from all indications, is the former king's son. Who is, of course, unaware of his birth and being raised as a commoner. I think, either the sheriff himself or his now long dead first wife, is a "witchhunter" . I read the first 3 books in the series in 2005 and now I can't think of the author or a title! Likely I found the series through a Goodreads recommendation, so I'm hoping this community can help me rediscover it....more
