This letter is not a memoir. Nor is it a policy memorandum issued by the government or by a local think tank. Rather, it is an assessment of how I have always lived my life by the mantra, "A good person will eschew uncivilized Lysenkoism". Let's review the errors in Mr. Gerrie Du Toit's statements in order. First, it would be good for the press to start paying attention to things like this. According to Gerrie, most people believe that one can understand the elements of a scientific theory only by reference to the social condition and personal histories of the scientists involved. Really? Does Gerrie have some sort of mind-reading ability or did he get his information from a less reliable source? Well, if I knew that, I'd be in Stockholm picking up my prize and a sizable check.
Just wait until someone gets hurt as a result of Gerrie's threats. Then, more people will agree that he has a stout belief in astrology, the stars representing the twinkling penumbra of Gerrie's incandescent belief in propagandism. Gerrie's diatribes are rife with contradictions and difficulties; they're completely unholy, meet no objective criteria, and are unsuited for a supposedly educated population. And as if that weren't enough, those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Of course, if Gerrie had learned anything from history, he'd know that I'm not a combative person. I'd like nothing more than to extend my hand in friendship to Gerrie's comrades and convey my hope that in the days to come we can work together to perform noble deeds. Unfortunately, knowing them, they'd rather level filth and slime at everyone opposed to Gerrie's gibes because that's what Gerrie wants. Having reached this letter's desition, I just want to leave you with the thought that Mr. Gerrie Du Toit's contumelious recommendations do not comport with my policy always to set the record straight.
