For those who have never read Ilona Andrews, I say what are you doing with your life? You should definitely read all of their amazing series. Their series have incredible world building, character development, micro and macro plots, incredible side characters, humor, mystery, action with great fighting scenes, some romance -note the word some(as that is one of the big differences between UF and paranormal). Also, please NO YA. I don't have the patience for Sara J. Maas and her abusive relationships or any of her ilk. Nor do I want a "red shirt MC", which to me is a character too stupid to live. I've already read the Cassandra Palmer series(as much of it as I'm going to read that is),Patricia Briggs series-which I like, Jeanine Frost series- I like the Cat and Bones and Vlad series, the others not so much, Seanan McGuire -like Incryptid and October Daye (though I like Incryptid better), Annette Marie -love her stuff and have read it all, Nalini Singh -love the Guild Hunter series (Psy Changeling is OK) and Suzanne Wright -love her Dark In You series (her others I like too though her werewolf are my least favorite of her series). Also, have read the Dresden Files and all of Simon R Green (both of which I love) So hopefully someone can recommend me something in the UF world that will become as beloved to me as all of Ilona Andrew's series. P. S. If it takes more than 75 pages for things to start happening then please don't recommend the book. For instance, in an Ilona Andrew's book by page 20 stuff has gone DOWN. I need the good, quick action. This is part of why me and YA don't get along. Thanks...more
