Cory Doctorow is a terrible fictio writer. His characters are weak his dialog is awkward his story is flimsy. But he's a brilliant tech writer. Little Brother contains some of the best explanations of complex tech ideas I've ever seen. The story is good enough to get you from one explanation to the next. It's a great primer for someone who wants to get into things like cryptography and wants to know what everyone's talking about. Also it's free on his website.
