In the future *I would like to read a sci-fi/fantasy book/saga with an antihero/morally grey protagonist*. And not morally grey in a stereotypical bad boy male love interest way, but *in a way that is driven by a fatal flaw such as selfishness, greed, and so on.* I don't care what gender the protagonist is. I'm not looking for a strictly romance story, rather a plot line that is very influenced by this 'antihero protagonists' decisions, good or bad. (basically im more interested in a story that has minimal romance or romance between side characters not necessarily the protag. minimal romance to me = already together/past honeymoon phase or VERYYY SUBTLE + platonic romance rather than straight to sexual romance) ------- examples if you are confused about what I'm talking about (ik im a bad explainer): - Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye --> values good qualities and innocence yet he is a pathological liar and very cynical - Snape --> IK he isn't a protagonist but he possesses anti hero qualities such as picking the correct side despite being very mean and antagonistic towards Harry + his friends
What I am NOT LF (I love these books btw) - ANY good character from LOTR --> 'chosen one' stereotype is not what I'm looking for, I want somebody lowkey RELUCTANT to do 'good' things - Alina Starkov: No hate to her character but she is a highly stereotypical female heroine who is 'naive' and wants to do what is best for the world, and I see her in almost every female-led fantasy book. So please, not her.
