hey! i'm looking for funny british/irish cozy crime audiobooks. let me be specific about what i mean: i want something clever and intelligent — not just cozy, but genuinely witty. i love series with real character development over multiple books. whathey! i'm looking for funny british/irish cozy crime audiobooks. let me be specific about what i mean: i want something clever and intelligent — not just cozy, but genuinely witty. i love series with real character development over multiple books. what i don't love is when a series is set in some tiny english village and by book 8 there have been 8 murders. at some point that's just absurd. the hawthorne books by horowitz navigated this brilliantly. if the author finds a clever way around the "and another murder" problem, i'm in. authors i loved: caimh mcdonnell (absolute favorite — listened to everything he's done), horowitz's hawthorne series (truly clever masterpieces), richard osman, t.e. kinsey's lady hardcastle, fiona leitch's nosey parker, robert thorogood, kristen perrin, jo middleton. agatha raisin is also ok. what didn't work for me: janice hallett (reading out an email exchange wasn't much fun on audio), m.w. craven's puppet show (too bloody, too dark — put it away after a few pages), sweetness at the bottom of the pie (child protagonist wasn't for me), verity bright, alice bell, dinner lady detectives. preferably something from the last few years, ideally the start of a series. the world is grim enough — i need something uplifting and funny. bonus points if the author is up and coming!...more
