Rick Riordan does have other great books. If you want your son to pick up on Greek mythology, this is the way to go. I think it would be appropriate for a 6th grade student. she said: " This book has some heavy issues in it, but it was on the reading list for my 6th grade class, along with dealing with dragons and the island of the blue dolphins (both which are good but have a female lead character). This one is a dystopian book that does tackle issues such as death and controlling societies. It is very good but I did not read it until a year ago (I have graduated from college), so I am not sure about how appropriate it is for your son. "
