“L’espressione “pane e birra” ricorreva anche nei saluti quotidiani, e serviva ad augurare buona fortuna o salute. Un’iscrizione egiziana incita le donne a dare ai loro figli in età scolare due brocche di birra e tre piccole pagnotte ogni giorno, in modo da garantire il loro sano sviluppo. Allo stesso modo, l’espressione “pane e birra” veniva usata dalle popolazioni mesopotamiche per intendere “da mangiare e da bere”; in sumero, una delle parole che indica il banchetto letteralmente significa “luogo del pane e della birra”.”
