I don't know how many of you ever read the long series format, historical "Type" books such as "White Indian Series" by BCI. But there was something similar to that which I read in my late teens. It was about a white man, who gets adopted into a mexican nobleman's family. He had come from Spain to take over a land Grant. he was the Alcalde ( I Think) as well as the local powerhouse nobleman. At any rate, this young white man happens upon the ranch, falls in love with the daughter, stays on and eventually takes over the ranch, making it the biggest concern in their part of the world. It's loosely based on History, but mainly a romantic adventure series. All I can remember is the name of the protagonist...I think...was Hawk? maybe John? Very frustrating, I want to read the series again. Now. To go back to 1980. I found a dusty old book in my Grandfathers basement. It was from the turn of the century. It described in detail the adventures of three young boy's who were the son of a naturalist. They were either sent off to the plains, or went of their own volition. The purpose was part camping, part hunting, and part studying. The book follows the adventures of these three young brothers across the plains as they Hunt Buffalo and get involved in other things. I distantly remember maybe the father was a frenchman who emigrated...I cannot remember. But it was a childhood book, I was enchanted by the boy's adventures, and would love to relate them to my own two Son's. Pleas help folks:)

Wow Ron--finding a book that old at your grandparents would be something that I'd have LOVED to do. Unfortunately, my grandparents were not readers, so I never found anything neat like that.
I don't know either of your books, but that second one sounds really interesting.
keep the faith--someone might recognize one or the other.

Yes im still looking for the old one, I actually found the series I was looking for, i'll check out Karl May Nathalia and Thank you.
The old book sounds like The Boy Hunters or Adventures in Search of a White Buffalo by Thomas Mayne Reid - a prolific writer of boys' stories, many set in the wild west. Text should be on-line. Hope that's of help.
