What do you think of actor Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug the Dragon in the new film 'the hobbit' based on JRR Tolkien's increadible book? Do you think that a fire-breathing Dragon can be as memorable as Andy Serkis as Gollum/ Smegol?

It is confirmed! 3 parts it is. Though Peter Jackson seemed quite happy about it, I am not feeling to happy.
1 Because how can you fit all that information (like Alexis said)
2 I have to wait longer for Temeraire!
But I still think it will be good (I hope!).

Saw the Hobbit?? It was epic . Peter Jackson changed it, but I see it as his interpretation of the book. Martin Freeman as Bilbo was exellent, and Gollum made me laugh and shudder at the same time. I loved it. Others, however, have different oppinions ... but I decided I would enjoy it by itself, without comparing it to the book. Unfortunately, Smaug isn't in it very much. We have to wait till the next movie for him ;(. Can't wait!
I thoroughly enjoyed "The Hobbit." Even though apparently characters from the Silmarillion were used in the movie (so my son tells me). I loved the wizard with the bunnies pulling his sled. I loved the scene with the giant eagles saving the beleaguered friends. The goblin king was horrific with that horrible, ugly hanging chin thing. I was on the edge of my seat during much of the movie; loved the graphics, loved the characters, loved the plot.

Some of the people I went with commented that the seats were uncomfortable ... but I didn't notice, 'cuz I was hardly ever actually touching the back.
To Lucinda: Benedict Cumberbatch sure is getting around a lot lately: the BBC Sherlock series; Warhorse, and the new Star Trek movie later this spring. I did not realize he was also going to act as Smaug; although the he was credited as being the Necromancer in the first movie.

Cole wrote: "Warhorse was beautiful!!!"Ikr! I adored it. My favourite scene - when Albert's eyes were damaged (For like half an hour I thought Albert was dead, and I almost had a heart-attack, so at that moment I was both relieved and scared ... I hadn't read the book then, so I didn't know how it would end), and they lead Joey past him ... I was like, SHOUTING at the screen DX. Anyway, a little after that, when he whistled. <3 It was so sweet. I cheered :)
I read The Hobbit SO many years ago but I've already seen the movie 4 times LOL! I'm gonna read it again just so I remember what happens. I'm SO excited for the 2 sequels!!

Then I had to go back and look for him in the movie!

Cole wrote: "I cried at the part when he whistled. And the book is childrens picture book, not much to read."
It's actually a fiction chapter book for children, some 165 pages in length. The edition I saw had no pictures in it. By the well-known English author Michael Morpurgo.

I read an edition with pictures, but you're right, Beverly - it isn't a picture book. :)
Er, well it started out as a discussion about The Hobbit movie, and turned into an oppinion on whether or not War Horse is a picture book ^-^ (which is isn't :P)
Depends which edition you read ^_^ The edition I read did have full colour water-colour paintings every couple of pages. That doesn't make it a 'picture-book', though. Just a book with pictures ;P
I have read several reviews that are putting down the next "Hobbit" movie, coming out today in theaters. However, despite the critic's naysaying, I still plan to go see it, although not today. I am looking forward to it; have seen some of the trailers and they look enticing. I will just ignore the fact that Legolas never appeared in the Hobbit, and that there is no such character as Tauriel in any of the Tolkien books.
I saw the newest Hobbit movie. It was very good, but I always hate things that stop right in the middle of action. Smaug was very well done.
Oh man, the battle of the five armies! I am soo excited, I love the new look of Smaug! Fly my pretty, be free and set fire to the rain!
