Harris and Me is about a no name boy with a troubled home life. Because his parents are alcoholics, this boy is shipped from family member to family member, some of which he's never even met. At the beginning of the Summer, the boy is driven by the Sherriff to a long distant aunt and uncle's house way out in the country. As soon as the boy steps out of the car, he is met by a wild trouble maker, who is his cousin Harris. For the rest of the summer, the boy learns to live on the farm. He works harder than he's ever had to. He also spends every waking moment with Harris, staying in trouble, getting into mischief, harrassing the poor farm animals, and most of all becoming best friends. Before I got into this book, I really didn't think I would like it. I am not a Gary Paulsen fan, but I will say overall this book is really cute! I found myself smiling and giggling to myself throughout the story. Honestly, I'm not sure that I would use this book in my classroom, but it is definately one that will be on my shelf. This book can be put into the hands of many middle school boys, whether they just want a good read, or if they are having home issues and need somewhere to put their energy.
