This book could really use some maps! I'm so confused about where everyone is, especially Bayaz and company.
Here's a post from Abercrombie on the subject of maps (in summary he explains his books are character driven):http://www.joeabercrombie.com/2007/10...
Unfortunately the author's reasoning about maps doesn't work for me, I was spending so much time wondering where Bayaz and his group were in relation to Adua, Dagoska and Angland that it was distracting me from the story. Luckily I found this: http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs40/f/200...
Now that I've finished this section I gotta say, I'm liking Bayaz less and less. In the first book he seemed all mysterious and powerful and pretty funny too, but in this book he's looking more and more weak and flawed and grumpy, and his plan to save the world sounds like it will end in disaster. Not at all your typical wise Mage character (along the lines of Gandalf and Dumbledore).
I agree Heidi - when Bayaz and his group left, I liked Bayaz a lot, although I liked Logen the most. By the end of this section I didn't like Bayaz much at all, but I grew to like Ferro and Jezal much more than I had (still loved Logen the most).
I agreed with all that too. Bayaz is not the Gandalph I first imagined. Login is still the front runner for me.I prefer maps. I have no idea in my head where everything is or anything for that matter. Except the North and South parts!
I know Jamie! I just see West as up there and was very annoyed when both Glokta and Bayaz' groups were 'down' because I could not compare them to each other
I agree with you Suzanne. I think Ferro is finally showing some deeper character and Logan is now getting confused because of a woman. I also think Bayaz is getting like able as he gets crankier and closer to the goal. It is a bit strange that none of them have really quizzed Bayez on what exactly he wants them to do when he gets to his goal. It is all a bit vague at the moment.

I love how Jezal is maturing really quickly
How Ferro and Logen are actually becoming friends???
Glokta and West both managing to keep everything going...
I am already excited for Book III
