I ordered the Ginsburg translation, which should arrive here soon. I also have a copy of Glenny. I think I should be able to read it over the weekend. If it looks like I can pick it up earlier, I'll let you know!
I got a version on iTunes bc it it was only $.99. Seems to be fine but was wondering what you thought.
Only gives me a publishers name and I can't seem to find any other info...published October 2011 by Fdapub?
I'm not sure Carol. But some of us have a Glenny translation on PDF available if you'd like a copy? ***Anyone wanting a free copy of the Glenny translation can PM myself or Kris your email addy *** :)
When abouts was this one written? Said B. began work on M&M in '29. Guy sure had a thing for animals! :D
Already found my copy of it. It helps that I just recently watched an excellent Bortko movie based on this book. I'll look to see if there's a subtitled version of that movie for anyone who's interested.
@maryKris forwarded me a copy. Thank you though! Now I need a functioning printer so I don't have to stare at the computer screen!
This looks like we've got a bit of a reading party going! I own the Ginsburg translation and will be reading that first, followed by the Glenny. I'm looking forward to hearing Ginsberg's "voice" as I've decided to skip her translation of TM&M due to the censorship issue. Many others have said that despite the omitted material, they enjoyed her interpretation of the text.
I'm finishing M&M either tonight or tomorrow (I'm really trying to stretch it out) and will then start Heart of a Dog on Wednesday.
I can't wait to her your guys' opinions on (view spoiler) That has always made me think and reevaluate my position.
Two-thirds of the way done with this, what a fun ride....Nataliya are all Bulgakov's books this great?!

A Country Doctor's Notebook is also pretty great but in a very different way - more of a documentary/memoir feel as he based the book on his own experiences as a young country doctor. His plays are fine. The White Guard has potential but is very much unfinished. Fateful Eggs and the biography of Molliere were interesting and well-done, but nowhere near the quality of TM&M, A heart of the Dog and A Country Doctor's Notebook.
