I don't use that feature (have the email notification turned OFF), so it doesn't effect me. But I can imagine it's pretty disconcerting for those who rely on it.

Yep, I only have a few notifications turned on but have noticed their absence...I guess we can look forward to a flood of Shelfari e-mails whenever they get them working again. :\

An interesting story ...
I've been a member of Webshots (a site for sharing photos, screensavers, wallpaper) for over 10 years. On Oct 2 they suddenly announced that the site had been sold to new owners, there would be a new site (called Smile by Webshots), and the old Webshots would shut down permanently effective Dec 1. They are no longer supporting Webshots desktop applications. No new photos to download. No way to comment on members photos as was done previously.
To say the least this has caused an uproar. The new desktop download doesn't work well. The new site will required you to "friend" other members in order to see each others photos ... so no more public sharing.
Anyway ... today a senior member of staff (the photo editor, who has been with the company since the beginning - through several changes of ownership - and is staying with the new Smile) posted some additional information in response to all the cries of protest and dismay.
One very telling remark: Legally we were not able to announce any changes in ownership or structure until last Tuesday (i.e. the day it was announced).
I'm just suddenly struck with what's been happening at Shelfari and how little response we get from the team over the past few months. And I'm afraid the photo editor's remarks have given me a vision of the future of Shelfari ...

Yikes, that is scary! I do feel like something like that has to be brewing over at Shelfari--hoping that I'm either wrong or that they'll make an announcement that gives people plenty of time to shift data elsewhere before any major changes are made.

(I used to use Webshots, too, mostly to download pretty pics for my desktop; I never did use it for my own pictures. A few years back, most of it went to subscription, so I stopped using it. Sad to see it's gone that way, though, BC.)

Same here ... I only used it to download pretty pics for my desktop. Never uploaded anything to the site.

After you've refreshed the page ... you'll see several links in the lower right corner of your message block reply | edit | delete | flag
Click on the DELETE button.
I do not know whether the group moderator / admin is able to delete another member's post. I know that the moderator/admin CAN lock a thread and archive it. I know this only because I've noticed it on other groups. Not being a moderator/admin I do not know how it's done.

I have the "reply/delete/flag" options available after each post in this thread, so it looks like group admins can in fact delete other people's posts.

Well,it seems that the Shelfari "search" problem is mostly fixed. It's been working just fine (for me at least) for the last several days without interruption.
A sign of hope ....
Still a few "blue cover of death" problems on my shelf ... but I'll give that a while longer before I try to go in and fix them on my own.

Yup, it's good news! Of course, now that I'm here... It will still take me a lot of time to get my shelf here caught up to my shelfari shelf, since importing really didn't work for me. But, hopefully little bit by little bit...

It took me a couple of years to build my shelf ... bit by bit. But slow and steady wins the race!

I have noticed some slow loading times today. :(

I've also noticed slow loading yesterday and today. A couple of times the spinning loading thingy just kept on for what seemed like forever, and I just shut down the browser entirely and started over. (This happened both with Firefox and IE)

I was getting in just fine when I was at work yesterday, but when I came home and tried to log in around 7p (central daylight time) I got a "server error" message. Tried Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer 10.
I sent an email to feedback@shelfari.com ... but there is no one who monitors this 24-hours a day, so the Shelfari staff had all gone home by the time I did that.
I tried again this morning ... same result. 8:00a.m. in Seattle is 10:00 in Wisconsin ... I'm guessing there won't be any improvement until at least noon my time.

It dawns on me that if the "server is down" then my email to feedback@shelfari.com probably won't go through either.
As for getting any help from amazon ... Amazon owns Shelfari but they don't run it. It's still run as an independent business. My understanding is that Shelfari has only a handful of employees (under 15). GoodReads, on the other hand is much larger with many more employees. Don't know if GR has 24-hour tech support, but clearly Shelfari does NOT.

Jonetta, that's an excellent point!

Since no responses seem to be forthcoming from the Shelfari team, I was wondering if anyone here knows how to delete tags from books on your shelf without having to go one title at a time from your shelf. I've tried it in "list view", and I can add/correct tags but cannot delete them! What am I missing?

I've discovered that any changes you make to the list view do NOT take affect on the book page at all. Unfortunately, this means that in order to delete tags you have to go one book as a time :0(
If you post your dilema in the Shelfari Discussions & Questions group you'll probably get a response .... from another Shelfari member who knows how to do what you're asking (not necessarily from Shelfari staff - i.e. Amanda).
Find the group here: http://www.shelfari.com/groups/10000/...
As for the list view changes ... you have to remember to click the "save" button at the bottom of the page or your changes will NOT take. (Learned that one the hard way.)

Ah, click save. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks.

Thanks so much for the suggestions, guys!
I have always remembered to click "save", so that is not the problem. At this point I believe that Lauren is right...it is limited what you can change in the "list view" mode with tags. Very unfortunate, too, as it is so easy to make a typo or inadvertently change the wording of a tag you are trying to keep "pure". Just another reason to like goodreads, I guess!

What browser are you using ... I just checked in and I didn't have a problem with IE (Sunday, 4:15 pm Chicago time)

This Shelfari member is specifically complaining about IE9 ... http://www.shelfari.com/groups/10000/...
Of course, Shelfari has no tech support over the weekend (or any major US holiday) ... so at best this will be addressed later today (say about noon Chicago time)

I'm using IE and I'm ok, although it has been a bit slow going over the last few days.

I really believe there are site stability issues no one is concerned about addressing any longer. When was the last time we've heard from Amanda. As much as I love this site, I'm slowly migrating to Goodreads. And that may be what they want us to do.

I think you are right Jonetta. Amazon owns both Shelfari and Goodreads and the only changes that Shelfari has made recently are to make it more like GR (the notifications, activity feeds, etc.) perhaps so users will be more comfortable when the eventual migration takes place.

I missed this little tidbit of info about goodreads vs shelfari! Which one is supposed to win out?????
