What is your favourite line from the AWESOME book, The Hobbit??

“The road goes ever on and on”

I just like this idea and find it represents life and hope quite well.

Jeni, I like that line too. But there are quite a lot of them in The Hobbit. The whole travelling poem is incredible. In case anyone wants the whole thing:

“The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say”

I completely agree that this is a lovely poem. In case you didn't know, it was set to music by Donald Swann, as was Bilbo's Last Song. I used to have the record on vinyl - I can't read the poem without hearing the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dmRwj...
Many of Tolkien's poems were meant to be sung.

There is also what Thorin said to Bilbo as he lay dying after the Battle of Five Armies. "Child of the kindly west..."

Pretty sure it's grocer.

Such a deep and clever line. And Iain McKellen delivers it beautifully.
