Megan (Sheffield) What is the setting of your book? Be sure to include SPECIFIC details. How does the setting impact the story?

Example: The Fault In Our Stars takes place in Indiana. One specific place that my characters are a lot is the hospital. This impacts the story because it shows a part of the characters lives. Both of the main characters are sick with forms of cancer so they spend a lot of their time in the hospital. This is also evident because of the relationships they have with the nurses and how frequently they talk about nurses. It makes it clear that they are used to dealing with hospital staff and that they have had cancer for a long time.

The Cay takes place in many different places. The introduction takes place is Willemstad, on the island of Curaçao, thae largest of the Dutch islands just off the coast of Venezuela. This impacts the story because they are in war with Germany, and the main character, Philip, has to move to Norfolk since his mother does not believe that they are safe. On the way to Norfolk, his ship gets hit by a torpedo and Philip is thrown overboard. He hits his head before he is hauled onto a raft with an eighty year old negro and a cat. Philip becomes blind and lands at the second and most important setting, The Cay. To be specific, Devil's Mouth. This defininetly impacts the story because Philip has to learn how to survive on this cay by catching food for himself, despite the fact that he is blind!

Rachel | 4 comments The Sweet Far Thing takes place in London. One specific place that my characters are a lot in is a girls boarding school. This impacts the story because it is what the story is based on. The main character has a mean mother who murdered her father sent her to this mean boarding school where they hurt other girls including the main character. That is only the introduction. Even though the main character is wealthy they treat her like she has nothing but the cloths on her back. To be specific the boarding school is far from the city and way up north. With serious weather conditions it is hard to survive this school.

Kacie Catching Fire takes place in the Capitol and the Districts. One specific place that Peeta and Katniss are a lot is the Capital. This impacts the story because it shows a part of the characters lives and how they have to prove to president snow that they love each other. Both of the Peeta and Katniss are victors from the 74th hunger games and have to show to the capitol and the gamemakers that they love each other. This is also evident because of the relationships they have with many people back in District 12 and how President snow has threatened. It makes it clear that the capitol didn't like that both, Katniss and Peeta were victors and want to get revenge.

Matthew | 3 comments The setting in my book The Adventures of Sherlock Homles is in London, England in the late nineteenth century. Most of the events take place on Baker's street in London. The other events take place in Sherlock Homles' apartment. This is where Watson tells him about the mysterious events that have lately happened. Then Sherlock goes out into London and tries to find clues about the mystery. In Sherlocks apartment there is garbage, old newspapers, and treasure like things. When he is not out finding clues he is in his apartment doing nothing.

Lucy | 2 comments Life As We Knew It takes place in Pennsylvania. One specific place my book takes place in is there home. This impacts the story because when they are usually at home they spend a lot of time with there family, which changes there personalities. Miranda spends a lot of her time at Miller's Pond with her friend and brother. They spend time there because all the beaches are closed and they have no where else to swim, because of the moon.

Anna | 3 comments Close to Famous takes place Culpepper, VA. One specific place that my characters are a lot is at Miss Charleena's house. This impacts the story because this is where Foster tells Miss Charleena all of her secrets to cooking her famous cupcakes.Foster loves to cook with Miss Charleena because she tells foster all of her adventures when she starred in movie. This is also evident because of the relationship foster has with Miss Charleena and the things Foster tells her mom about Miss Charleena. It makes it clear that Foster likes Miss Charleena and will keep spending time with her.

Molly | 2 comments In Stalker Girl by Rosemary Graham the story takes place in New York City. This impacts the story because Carly can walk around the city and keep stalking Taylor. One time Carly followed Taylor into her apartment and went into Taylor's room. Another time Carly followed Taylor all throughout the city and in and out of stores. That is why NYC impacts the story.

Tara | 3 comments The Maze Runner takes place in the Glade. The main character is clueless to where it is and how he got there. Everyone ( the Gladers) is very secretive on what they do and say therefore, it all depends on if they are ready to consume the information that they are able to provide you, to ease their confusion. The glade is a large expanse where the Gladers live and is enclosed by big stone walls. This impacts the story because almost everyone that lives there wants to find a way out, but it isn't that simple they must go through a maze and they believe that if there is a way out it will lead them to a new home, a better home. Each and every night the stone walls close then reopen once again giving the Gladers a chance to freedom. Although the maze is the only way they know to escape the glade, the people do not want to get stuck behind the walls when they close after dark. Therefore each runner has to be very careful where they go so they can return safely back inside the glade. Thomas the new comer wants to become a runner therefore he can have a chance to get out of that place. There's no telling that he will get a chance to become what he is longing to be. I'll have to read more and see what Thomas' next move is because he is still adjusting to the area. Not everyone is friendly to him their but that doesn't stop him to question the way he does or think the way he does.

In the station is where he does all the things in the book like the toy booth witch is a place where Hugo and Isabelle goes a lot and that impact the story a lot because they formed their relationship there, they even found each other at the owner of the toy booth house witch was Isabelle house.

Henry h The Hunger Games takes place in the future in North America. In the book North America has been split up into 12 districts and and the beginning of the book takes place in district 12. The main character in my book is Katniss and she lives with her sister and mother. In the hunger games there are 12 districts and district 12 the district that Katniss lives in is the least wealthiness distract out of all of them. The setting impacts the story because during these times there is something called the hunger games and they go on every year. one day a year all the districts go to one place and one boy and one girl from each district go to the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are a fight to the death battle between every district. That is the Summary of The Hunger Games

Madeline | 3 comments The Truth About Forever takes place in the United States. The book does not say exactly where it takes place, but I know it takes place in the United States because they speak english and their daily life is like ours. One specific place where the main character is a lot in the book is Macy's house. This impacts the story a lot because Macy's dad just died. When ever they are are at home, many items that Macy's dad ordered deliver to their house. This makes Macy very sad when ever she sees them, and she saves all of them.

Chris | 3 comments The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey takes place on a small island off the coast of Holland. Reynie, Kate, Sticky and Constance are risking their lives to save Mr.Benedict. They are racing through a dark cave looking for their friend. But Mr.Curtain, who is the kidnapper of Mr.Benedict, is doing anything he can to stop the children. The clock is ticking. Who will escape? Who will never be seen again?

message 15: by Anna W (new)

Anna W | 3 comments In the book "The World We Live In" the setting is mostly at their house. Since the world has been impacted by the moon so much no one really goes outside anymore. Except for the occasional outings for food pick-ups. They stay inside for many reasons like harsh conditions outside because of the low temperature. Even though it is June there has recently been a snowfall of a couple of inches. The moon has not moved since the asteroid hit it, so there has been no new changes in the setting for about a year in this book.

Hetty | 3 comments In the book Uglies the setting takes place in a society where there are two towns to live in. One is called "Ugly Town" and the other is called "Pretty Town".In this book this a society where people live but, when they are 15 and under they are considered an ugly. On there sixteenth birthday they have a surgery that turns them pretty. They then live in "Pretty Town".Now "Pretty Town" is very different then living in "Ugly Town". For example,if you are a pretty all you do is party and do whatever you want. All day and all night long nothing else matters but to you but to have fun and party because you are beautiful and perfect. On the other hand if you are ugly, then all you do is go to school and do nothing. Have no fun, no parties nothing. This is an important setting because when Tally finally is sixteen and about to turn pretty and go to Pretty Town something bad will happened and just might make her go to a forbidden, lost and hidden Area called Smoke.

Maggie | 2 comments in the book Hatchet the story takes place in Canada. The main character Brian is mainly in the woods, from his recent plane crash. So the setting in this book is always in the wilderness, because Brian cant travel anywhere else. So in the woods there are mostly trees everywhere, but right where Brian landed there is a lake. He seems pretty convinced that he will get out someday, but he might be stuck there forever.

Breana | 4 comments In my book Eleven by Lauren Myracle the setting is in many places like wise her house, school and in stores in her hometown. In the begging of the book she was at school with her friend Amanda and they were discussing how she was going to plane her party from gift to food. This setting doesn't impact the story because the main drama of the story is not caused by the setting that the character are taking place in. In conclusion these are the reason why the setting doesn't impact the book.

Sofia | 7 comments In Uglies by Scott Westerfeld there are multiple settings such as Ugly Town, Pretty Town, and Smoke. The setting I chose to describe is Pretty Town. Pretty Town is where all the past Uglies go after they get their operation to turn into a Pretty. Tally is an Ugly and she can't get her operation until she's 16. She has seen her friends leave and get their operations and go live in Pretty Town. Tally sneaks into Pretty Town anytime she can but it is very difficult because Pretty Town has very high-tech equipment. Some of the equipment they have includes the talking bridges that can tattle on them. This shows me that Pretties don't want Uglies to come into their town. This also shows how separate the towns are.

Andrew | 3 comments In the book The Hunger Games, the setting takes place in District 12. District 12 is a very poor coal mining. This was located in the region known as Appalachia. Katniss and her family live in the poor part of district 12, where the coal miners live and work.
