Hi guys, here's the buddy read for the 5th Weather Warden book by Rachel Caine :)

Hey guys, I'm running a week behind on my buddy reads but feel free to start this without me and I'll catch up later. Probably won't get to it until Friday or so.

I totally spaced that we were starting this now. lol I'm good to start whenever so I can wait.

I'm probably going to start this at the end of the week.

Um, I haven't enjoyed the last two books (mostly because Joanne can never catch a break), so I'm not going to continue with you guys. I'm going to miss our monthly buddy reads though. : ( But I really had to force myself through that last one. Fortunately, you have Ashley to join in. I may try the Outcast Season series if you continue on to that one.

Ok guys, I just finished Chapter 1. You'd be glad you stopped Jean if you were getting annoyed already. (view spoiler)[What so Joanne comes in, tells them whats going on with the Djinn, informs them of the Ma-at and then gets locked up for it? The more I think about it, the more I think Paul is a dickhead. He's more concerned about looking good in front of all the wardens than about saving humanity. Typical male powerplay *rolls eyes*

And Marion knew about it too, but Joanne gets all the flack for it? Of course. (hide spoiler)]

Yeah I know, he's pretty annoying. I think without Paul, the wardens would be a bit more acceptable and not treat Jo so unfairly.

Chapter 2 (view spoiler)[Oh David *sighs* He always seems to appear just when you think things are over between him and Jo. Can they ever be a normal couple? After Ill Wind, it seems like they've been doomed ever since.

Well I just hit the 40% mark...and I'm a tad bit bored. Anyone else having that issue. Things have happened, but nothing that's really excited me that much.

I'm around the Oracle part (can't remember think it's Chapter 4 or something) (view spoiler)[and it's awesome to see Jo kick ass with her powers again. Especially after the frustrating last book where she didn't have any powers at all. I wish Imara had more powers to do something, lol. (hide spoiler)]

So I finished...I had to keep reading to see if things got better. I don't know what was missing, but this book just seemed drier than the last couple.

I don't know if I have a lot to say at the moment regarding the bulk of the book. But the end...the end was interesting. I look forward to seeing what you think of the book Jeann.

I do agree (view spoiler)[that it was great that Jo had her powers back and that she seemed to be getting stronger and developing new powers. I like seeing her take care of herself more. And it was nice to see Jonathan. I wish he hadn't died, but since he did, it'd be great to see him in dreamlike capacities more often. (hide spoiler)]

End (view spoiler)[Seriously Lewis...she's wondering around naked in the woods and you're in trouble? Duh...maybe Jo's in trouble you idiot. Ugh. But this ending..even with Lewis being a dumbass has set up a serious what the f for the next book. Is Imara really dead? Where the heck is David? Can Jo get her memories back? Is Mother going to stop trying to kill humanity? I'll keep reading because I'm invested now and this ending has really intrigued me, but this next book better drag less than this one did. Small problem, I can't find my copy of the book. Hopefully its just hiding under my car seat or something.

I mean, there's an impending apocalypse and Eamon is the last thing we want to worry about. All he is, is an annoyance. Oh Midu you're the biggest tease!

Finally finished the book! Ah Paris, I didn't actually find it dragged as much for me, maybe because of Imara and all this major end of the world stuff. Also seeing Jo save her own butt a few times and kick ass was a treat too.

Probably the 2nd biggest cliffhanger ever in the series (the 1st biggest one was in Ill Wind of course!)

(view spoiler)[But man, that was a whopper of an ending! I wonder what happened to Jo?! And how could they possibly kill of Imara like that, I hope that's not the end for her, and the end for David.

About Lewis, I really think if David wasn't in the scene then Jo and him would be together. The whole buying a car for her thing was a dead giveaway. Plus it's inevitable that she would still have feelings for him too.

Eamon coming back gave me a huge face palm...Did him and that Liz in the coma kind of give anyone the creepers? Like how David said his intent on wanting her to wake up was a little more sinister, even though he loved her?

Also did anyone find the whole Jo suddenly possessing Fire powers to be kind of random? I think it was something about Jonathan giving it to her or something?? (hide spoiler)]

Yep, Total Eclipse is the last in this series and I've read that one. Not sure if I wanna start the spin-off if it is going to be the same "hit-Jo-till-she-breaks" concept

I freaking love when Midu jumps in with random teasery tidbits. lol

I’m pretty sure the dragging was just me. Now that I look back at it, I think I’m in one of those phases where I kinda have book burnout. Although I think it’s just with UF/PNR/YA type books cause contemporary romances I can sit down and read in a few hours without feeling any drag. I hope this is temporary because I love my paranormal books.

(view spoiler)[The ending was definitely the second biggest cliffhanger of the series. How do you move on from that? I want to say that I don’t think her or David are gone. Without them who’s going to pull Joanne back? Sure Lewis has feelings for her, but enough to drop everything and get her back from amnesiaville? I doubt it.

Lewis is very selfish in the grand scheme of things. I think him buying her the car was a weird way of staking a claim/reminding her he’s there, but really if she were to ever give up on David or if he died, I don’t think her relationship with Lewis would be very healthy (of course I get that her relationship with David isn’t, but he puts her first far more often than Lewis does). I mean he had her killed…sure he had the big picture in mind, but she would have agreed to it if he had asked. Instead he made her feel like he turned his back on her and then had her murdered. And that wasn’t the first, nor the last time that he turned his back on her or used her.

Eamon is the creepiest of all creepsters…well at least now that Quinn is dead. Yuck. I was hoping he was gone for good, but I have a feeling we’ll see him again and soon. And he’ll be just as creepy as ever.

I thought the new powers for Jo was a little weird, however after everything that’s happened to her…dying, becoming a Djinn, becoming human again, being pregnant with a Djinn, being drained by her Ifrit baby daddy so she was relatively powerless…somewhere in there something probably got a little hinky and abracadabra her powers are growing/changing/multiplying. Hopefully we’ll get some kind of explanation and it wasn’t just some random thing so that she could suddenly deal with fire for the plot. (hide spoiler)]

So I'm trying to think back and really...I kinda think the first chapter was really the only time that (view spoiler)[Joanne was a punching bag for things she had nothing to do with. I mean sure she gets her butt kicked along the way, but she was super empowered in this book, physically, magically and in regards to the Wardens. It was kinda nice to see her getting some respect for the most part. (hide spoiler)]

I love your insight Paris! You're so right, only the first Chapter was where she was treated unfairly. In some instances I actually think Firestorm is one of the better recent books in the series, especially after the Eamon/no powers fest in the previous book and Kevin and Yvette's disgusting influence in Book 3. It was nice to see Joanne kick ass for a while. She just gets stronger and stronger.

At least I'm pretty sure they are. And while she can totally do better, maybe they're what each other needs. She can make him a little less crazy and he can make her a little less full of herself?
