The perfect debate for a Writing group is not?

We all know them but for a reminder let's go over the basics;

Fuck, bitch, ass, whore, slut, cunt, prick, shit, nigger, kike, chink, spic, bastard, piss, and the rest (I could name more but I think I got my point.)

Some people think it makes people sound less intelligent while others like myself think it makes people seem less civilized. I want to know your views on the matter so we can all debate them.

Oh and thank the Goddess for this topic. I remember her giving that idea in another group we were in together. I don't think they ever did anything with the idea so I'm stealing it.

Mindy (zzoey) It's true, the more often you use them, you begin to sound less and less intelligent, but sometimes they're necessary to create the atmosphere concerning your character, or to create the personality of your character itself.

Minus the less intelligent thing.

Mindy (zzoey) Well, when I say intelligent, I mean, it makes you sound less sophisticated and meaningful. But heck, I swear all the time and I'm a genius! :P

lol nice. I think it just makes you sound less civilized. Intelligence has nothing to do with swearing.

Well, if you have this massive awesome vocabulary, then you don't have to swear. You can use thirty different words instead. I think that's what most people mean when they say less intelligent.

What does ones vocabulary have to do with intelligence? Some of the greatest engineers in the world had a terrible vocabulary and couldn't read or write but they built rockets and skyscrapers....

Vocabulary has lots to do with intelligence. That's not saying that it's the only factor of intelligence; many smart people have terrible vocabularies, and many people with large vocabularies aren't smart. But it is usually a telling sign. If someone uses big words, they sound smart. Simple as that.

Sounding smart and being smart are two separate things. I am an intelligent person but I swear like a sailor and my vocabulary is quiet small.

But if one uses big words I don't assume they are smart. Nor do I think they sound smart for that matter. I don't assume one is an idiot if they use profanity either. I just see one as more civilized then the other.

I could only tell which is smarter after a debate or two.

Swearing is awesome! There is no such thing as a bad word. Only bad meanings.

I wouldn't say awesome but I do agree.
