Charlaine Harris' Lily Bard series is pretty good. If you haven't read her Southern Vampire Books (Sookie Stackhouse), then you are in for a treat. I have read about 7 of the In Death books and I do like them, but if you read them too close together they get repetitive.
Thanks Mary, I'll definitly look them up :)
I wish Harris had gone further with the Lily Bard books. I really like them and I like the growth in her character.
Have you tried J.A. Jance. I enjoy both of her female series. There are 7 in the Ali Reynolds series and tons in the Joanna Brady series. Worth a try.
Julie James US attorney series is great! Pamela Claire's investigative reporter series is great, but there is a lot of romance, but very good in suspense. She carries the characters well throughout the series. the first is my least favorite and they get much better with each one. read the series quickly!rawr the dinosaur wrote: "Hey :)

I like three of J.A. Jance's series - Alison Reynolds, Joanna Brady and J.P. Beaumont. Brady and Beaumont share a few books. Reynolds and Brady take places in New Mexico and Beaumont in Seattle.

I back up the JA Jance recommendations. If you like something a little historical, both Jacqueline Winspear and Suzanne Arruda have great series with strong female leads. Jessica Speart also writes a decent series about a US Fish & Wildlife agent, and Nevada Barr does one about a park ranger. All these series have a bit of romance but are heavier on the mysteries. And I humbly recommend my "Nights" romantic suspense trilogy, Nights at the Cuzco, Nights in Captivity, and Nights on the Run.

Beaumont and Alison Reynolds.
I also like JoAnn Ross' High Risk series. Susan Andersen's Marine series was cute. I also like Lorie O'Clare Bounty Hunter series. Stephanie Tyler's Hold Trilogy. Maya Banks KGI series. Nina Bruhn's Passion for Danger series. Sharon Sala Cat Dupree and Rebel Ridge series. Catherine Mann Dark Ops series. Cherry Adair Lodestone series. Christine Feehan GhostWalkers series. Dee Henderson's O'Malley series. Shiloh Walker's Ash trilogy. Christine Skye Code Name series. These are some of the ones I've really enjoyed and always looking forward to getting more.
Check out the "Rizzoli & Isles" series by Tess Gerritsen. It's has TWO strong female leads. No paranormal. Some romance. They even made a TV series out of the books.
There is the Maggie O'Dell series by Alex Kava. Strong female lead, with a love interest that keeps popping up. She's an FBI psychologist so the scenery always changes. Also, The female detective series by James Patterson is good as well.
Try The O'Malley's series by Dee Henderson, the first couple of them had me on the edge of my seat!! It's a Christian series. I'm on #3 of the series now.

Greg Iles Penn Cage books are another edge of the seat read. Kat Martin Raines of Wind Canyon series.
Christie Reece Last Chance Rescue series.
JoAnn Ross High Risk series.
Also Shiloh Walker's Ash Trilogy, the first one I couldn't put down until I finished, the other two were as good.
Alafair Burke's series Ellie Hatcher and Samantha Kincaid have some romance. It's not a lot, but it's there. I agree with others who've posted about the JA Jance Joanna Brady series.

Yes, me also. I am thinking not as they were probably not best sellers as were the Sookie Stackhouse series. And so often when she contributes to short story collections, they are in the vampire-type.

According to Harris when she is done with a series she is done, no going back.

Try Tami Hoag's books, especially her earlier ones e.g.. Ashes to Ashes (nasty but fascinating) and the follow-ons, plus others. I think that Alison Brennan also has a series with female detectives and there is another, which I can't quite bring to mind. When it comes to me I post you.

I'm looking for a crime-romance series. I read a book from the In Death Series every month or two. I do like that series, but I'm looking for one with a more understated theme of romance.
Here's what I'm looking for:
- a strong female character ( must have)
-romance that is not a major theme and that develops throughout the series
-no paranormal pretty pretty please.
- each book in thE series should be new and interesting.
- I don't know if its possible, but I'd like the book was both plot and character driven.
All recommendations are welcomed, and thanks in advance :)
