Isabella | 154 comments I thought he was slightly unintelligent in the first book--I'm not using its name since its his name, too--but honestly, he's awesome in that one compared to himself in the other three. I don't know how I like the books so much, when the heroes are Eragon and Roran. I hate them both.

Isabella | 154 comments Honestly, I feel sorry for Saphira for loving him. She deserves a better rider, as far as I'm concerned. But hey, there are a lot of worse heroes out there, and at least he has cool powers--and uses them. I'll amend my earlier statement and say that I strongly dislike Eragon, shall I?

Yes, please amend. I don't think he quite deserves that. But I think Christopher made Eragon un-intellegent on purpose. Making a protaganist who isn't that bright but has a lot of heart is a popular character with the public. But I will be honest with you, he did annoy me quite a bit; probably because I am most like him, "lawful good", at least that is what people tell me. I tend to like characters that are the opposite to me more.

Isabella | 154 comments Yeah, I know he's not supposed to be very smart, but that just didn't settle well with me. I like flawed characters, but Eragon only annoys me for some reason. He's just not for me, I guess.

I will now amend my reckless words and say that I dislike him.

Say what ever it is you feel. We can't tell you what to feel about a character.
Anyway, ya, I kind of had the same feeling.

Isabella | 154 comments Hmmm. Doesn't anyone like Eragon? How are the books so incredible, if no one's enjoyng the hero? (I've been silently asking myself this question for years, and I still haven't answered myself. Maybe if I ask it aloud I'll finally figure it out?)

message 7: by Cole (new)

Cole (spectyr333) | 458 comments Good question! How can anyone like these books if no one loves the hero? One of life's great mystories!
Anyway, I am sure there are people out there that have only good things to say about him. By chance though, we all got into this discussion with almost the same opinion. Because it is not that I don't like Eragon at all, I just don't find him all that interesting. Plus, I am absolutely jealous of him!!!

message 8: by Isabella (new)

Isabella | 154 comments Haha! It's hard not to be jealous, when he has an awesome dragon bonded to him!

message 9: by Isabella (last edited Oct 12, 2012 09:25AM) (new)

Isabella | 154 comments Hahaha! Yes, I think they do, because Inheritance has aforementioned problems, and I can't get enough of it!

message 10: by Isabella (new)

Isabella | 154 comments Ah, the Queen's Thief! I think I'm going to have to read that again. As for Song of the Beast, I think it would be just about perfect if not for Narim--sorry, but I still don't like him. I'm not even sure if I spelled his name right...

I'm still reading His Majesty's Dragon, but the beginning at least I love. What about the Hobbit? I can't think of a problem with that.

message 11: by Cole (new)

Cole (spectyr333) | 458 comments One thing I like about the Inheritance is that the romance was a sub plot and not the driving force for the story. That is how books should be!
His Majesty's Dragon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 12: by Isabella (new)

Isabella | 154 comments I'm with you all the way on the whole romance-should-be-a-sub-plot thing--or nonexistent, even. So many books I thought I'd love have been ruined with too much mooning!

message 13: by Cole (new)

Cole (spectyr333) | 458 comments Romance is really hard to pull of, and if it isn't it just read as cheesy.

Cole (spectyr333) | 458 comments We solve a mystery!!!

Cole (spectyr333) | 458 comments Sorry, couldn't help it. Hehe!

message 16: by Cole (new)

Cole (spectyr333) | 458 comments You should put more characters up!?

Cole (spectyr333) | 458 comments Thank you!

message 18: by Prateek (new)

Prateek Kishore | 3 comments i agree. eragon may be unintelligent. but he was surely wise and smart and patient and brave. and he didn't need intelligence because there was saphira (his soulmate) and oromis and glaedr for that :).he had the burden to carry whole alagaesia on his shoulders. every moment in the book was life and death for him except at ellesmera. i surely like him

message 19: by Cole (new)

Cole (spectyr333) | 458 comments True. He is a good hero!

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Eragon is so blind sometimes, but I like him for that because not enough heroes today have any other fault than being too loyal to their friends, which isn't exactly a fault at all. Eragon was imperfect, and I liked that about him. I thought he was rather cute.
However, I have to say that Saphira is my favorite character. Don't get me wrong, I love Eragon, but Saphira is brilliant.

Cole (spectyr333) | 458 comments So we all agree that Eragon wasn't perfect but he was a very heroic person.

Judging from the comments on this page, yes.

Eragon was awesome. Like the skilled lucky mid intelligence person. If that makes any sense. He's like the person in the book u get ticked at, then u love. Just one of those awesome characters u just gotta love.
