Hello Mindy, Glad you joined my group and added me to your friends list. Not sure if you have read it yet but i have a suggestion of a book you and your daughter should read. It's called Aspergirls and I believe it will help you both. Also another one is Pretending to be Normal. both written by women who are on the spectrum and didn't find out till they were adults.

Mark Rivera (superherodad) | 5 comments Thank you! My wife is awesome. She didn't get her diagnosis till almost 2 years ago...it's been an interesting time since...she wrote a book about it and just recently put it on smashwords and Amazon (https://www.smashwords.com/books/view... I'm blogging about being an NT married to an Aspergirl on Wordpress at http://myaspiewife.wordpress.com/

Gerhard (gerryblue321) | 1 comments Hi everyone,
My name is Gerhard and I'm an Aspie. My special interest is autism spectrum disorder in all its facets.
Currently (January 2018), I'm preoccupied with the many effects of 'weak central coherence'.
I like drawing, art, history, literature, film and music. ( If you like, you might have a look at a selection of my drawings here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rN5Tr... )
For quite a long time, I was working as a taxi driver in Berlin which I enjoyed very much.
Since 2009, I am living with my girlfriend, 5 cats and 5 dogs in the countryside of north Germany.

message 12: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Sadowski | 1 comments Hello, there! My name is Matt and I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in the 6th grade, I believe it was. I am currently studying film, though my true love has always been books! I will read basically anything out in front of me, though I can be slow. I often find myself so captivated with something from the book that I lose my train of thought thinking about it!

My special interests are movies and Star Wars, so I suppose that those are my two "favorite" types of books, but again, I really just love words. I can't go wrong with Fantasy, Philosophy, Religious Studies, or Humor!

Calvin and Hobbes gets its own little sentence here though, that's a special kind of book for me! :)

Bambi | 1 comments Hi my name's Morgan and I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in the 8th grade and I adore fantasy as well as fiction. I read at a super fast rate, so its hard for me to stay in books.

Holly Lavender (hollylavendermuse) Hi, here's Holly from Germany. I am an author as well as mother of three (grown up's), asperger as well as beloved wife and so much more ... . My favorite books are childrens books with aspects of fantasy, humor and bizarre plots, sometimes poetry, fantasy as much as books about "us" ;) depending my mood

Joshua James | 4 comments Hello, I'm Josh. I have just been diagnosed as Aspergian. I managed to get through 38 years without knowing there was a name for why everything was so different and difficult for me, so in many ways I'm a newbie AND a veteran, simultaneously. I'm not sure how frequent or active this group is, but like... hi.

I think a lot of aspies were diagnosed quite late. It wasn't even in medical textbooks till 1997 and people who were young before that were often just thought of as odd.

I found out at 18, but it's so prevalent in my family that we thought it was just what we were like.

message 22: by Stephanie (last edited Nov 03, 2014 09:55AM) (new)

Stephanie (stephanieworkman) I joined this group because I have a friend with autism. He and my husband have been friends since high school which inspired the picture book I wrote. I added it to your book shelf. I also joined to find more material to read on autism and learn more about it. Years ago I did work in special education for a brief time. I actually got permission from Rosemary Crossley herself to use one of her quotes in my book. She is a lovely woman. Lucy's Amazing Friend

message 23: by Maxine (new)

Maxine (Booklover Catlady) (booklovercatlady) | 3 comments Hi everyone, I live in the UK with my husband, 15 year old super Aspie son and my two naughty Burmese cats. I'm 42 and was diagnosed last year with Aspergers.

I have a lot of chronic health and pain issues so fairly housebound. I read 2-3 books a day and am an Independent Book Reviewer for both publishers and authors direct. I love writing my reviews. I have a Facebook blog page for my reviews, the link is on my profile page if keen.

I run three groups on Facebook for Women with Aspergers and one Aspergers book group on Goodreads too.

I'm open to friend requests from other Aspies :-)

message 24: by Profiterole (last edited Nov 04, 2014 06:52AM) (new)

Profiterole | 1 comments Hi everyone,
I have an Aspie in the house and have found that some of the best ways for me to get inside his mind was through novels whose main characters fall on the spectrum.
I want to highly recommend the new novel Slightly out of Tune. The main character is a very high functioning Aspie who gets suspended from his (fictional) Ivy League university without understanding why. The main message of the book is "Social awkwardness is not a crime". Great book!
