Ah, Roran. He's my least favorite part of the Cycle, even though I, too, like him in the fourth book. I hate him still when I'm reading Eldest and Brisingr; he's the reason I think Eldest is such a weak link. His personality just really, really grates on my nerves. But yes, he is a good character.

I didn't like him at first either, but he quickly grew on me. I started to like him more than Eragon and started to look forward to his scenes. Which is a miracle because he doesn't have a dragon!
I can't believe we forgot him though! At least I think you did? *looks suspiciously at Alexis* Haha!

I knew it! Haha!
Anyway, are there any other characters we don't like?
Katrina was boring, I don't get Roran's appeal to her. Joed is a small character, and Brigit was made for Roran's benefit.
I don't like anyone from Carvahall, actually--excepting Eragon and, eventually, Roran. Joed annoyed me a bit, but he wasn't in it enough to really get on my nerves.
Horst is a typical character and his sons didn't really have much personality that I could see. To each their own, though.
Alexis wrote: "Mostly I agree, but Jeod was just in so many lame scenes, and I hate that Paolini tried to act like Jeod was important and tough, etc. And Birgit didn't seem like she had to be in the book at all, ..."I noticed. :)
This is a little off-target, but I just thought of a character we don't have: Durza. He's important enough, right? He was the villain in the first book...
Cassandra wrote: "Horst is a typical character and his sons didn't really have much personality that I could see. To each their own, though."Those three were interesting on there own, I liked them. But they were very minor. I think readers just get a feeling for people they like regardless of what we know (or don't) about them. This could explain Alexis like of them. Am I right Alexis?
See, there are people that understand! *grins* Although, I don't understand why you don't show more emotion when you read?
That is good, teasing is healthy in small doses.I am not sure... It is hard for me to pinpoint one because I have cried and laughed in so many of them. But I am thinking it was The Art of Racing in the Rain. It is my favorite book for a reason!
What book made you laugh the most?
Cassandra wrote: "Hahaha! We are, in fact, the Unserious Steinhauers! Beware us, all ye who are solemn!"Oh, I will. :)
Cole wrote: "Cassandra wrote: "Hahaha! We are, in fact, the Unserious Steinhauers! Beware us, all ye who are solemn!"Oh, I will. :)"
Ha, you aren't exactly solemn, Cole! I don't think you have to worry!

I think I cried for the longest time at the end of Way of the Dragon. I know you haven't read it, Lex, but you've probably heard that my favorite character died in that one. Everything, everything about the end of that book had me crying, outraged, or both--and not in a good way, I'm afraid.
I was crying worst, though, when Eluna died in the Dark Griffin. I loved Eluna, and the whole point of the book was that she died! The book deserves more credit than I give it, but I just can't forgive killing Eluna.
I don't like admitting it! But since you asked, you might as well know that I was sobbing into my pillow for half an hour. I loved that griffin!

I know you feel. *the weight of books on my shoulder is heavy but comfortable*
Should I read this Robin Hood?
I still have to finish Harry Potter!
That is harder to answer... Humor is easier to come by in books (not always good humor). I laugh most in YAs I think because they are designed to be funny and often times just fall on their face so bad I laugh anyway. But it would probably be Art of Racing in the Rain again or Vlad Taltos. There are also, Spice and Wolf, Kitty Norville, Kate Daniels, Jane Yellowrock, Taken, Shadow Falls, Iron Fey, etc.
I think I have cries in more books though so... I won't go through that list.

What is Way of the Dragon?
The Dark Griffin!!!!! I loved that book! I cried there too! (we are a bunch of cry babies) I was left so empty for Arenadd... Right when I was starting to like Eluna she was gone!!! Then my new favorite became Skii and she died too!!! I was in such a bad mood for days after that.
You are right though, if Eluna never died there would have been no book.

Way of the Dragon is a samurai book; it doesn't have any actual dragons in it, but I like it anyway. At least, I like the first three-quarters. It has the worst ending I've ever read.
It's good to know I'm not the only one who cried for Eluna! As I said, I don't give the Dark Griffin enough credit. It is actually a great book, I just have a grudge against it.

You guys are just funny!

It was a great book. What did you rate it?
So don't read Way of the Dragon?

Well, Way of the Dragon is actually the third book in a series I really loved, Young Samurai. I just really hated the ending. I don't know if you like samurai, but if you do I'd certainly recommend the series. It has one of my all-time favorite villains.
Cole wrote: "Not into samurai, sorry."Hey, not many people are into samurai, and I'll take a dragon over them any day myself. To each their own, remember?

Haha! Yes, I know it's aimed at me, Lex, you don't need to clarify. I like the idea of Robin Hood. I'm just not so interested in reading about him.
Cassandra wrote: "Cole wrote: "Not into samurai, sorry."Hey, not many people are into samurai, and I'll take a dragon over them any day myself. To each their own, remember?"
Yep. :)
Just give me an Anthro or mythical creatures book and you have my attention right away. I think I am obsessed, what do you guys think?

Ya, I agree that YA is pretty monotone right now.
I laugh a little too much (and cry) probably more than is warranted also.
What makes this story of Robin Hood different from the rest?
I do love that book! Thanks for adding it to your to-reads!

*grins* Oh, you're definitely obsessed, Cole! You're Head Dragon Rider for a reason!

*proudly holds his head high in the wind, hair billowing out, chin up, eyes on the horizon, as my dragon comes in over the lake*
Hahaha! Right I will get that wig then. *always wanted to have long hair*I not really interested in the legend my self, I will look it up though, read some reviews see if they catch my interest.
Glad you think so highly of my opinion, as I do your's.
Haha, Cole in a wig? I'd love to see that! And no one would dare pull on it with his dragon beside him! Offend the rider and you offend the dragon, right?
Or you girlfriend will cut it all off for me if I try growing it out!!! Hahaha! I need a hair cut right now anyway.
As with Nasuada and Thorn, I don't love Roran, but I respect his strength. I didn't start respecting him till the middle of Brisingr though - he seemed a bit too sappy about Katrina. He made a good character and he gave us a helpful insight on how it was like for the average Varden soldier.
Yes, he was a great example and gave us a great view of what being a average human faces against the Empire.I didn't like him in the beginning but honestly though, I loved him by the end of it.
I love Roran!! I think he's my favorite character. I love him and Katrina. They're love for each other is so real. I really don't like reading romance but when it was Roran and Katrina I was happy to read about them. He's just a real person who wants to fight and make a difference. My friend said she hated reading about Roran in Eldest. Like how it would be Eragon then Roran. I found that annoying too but then I was happy to read about Roran.
It does. But looking back after I've read the whole series, I'm kinda thankful for reading about him. It was quite interesting and because of all the switchbacks in Eldest I can now say Roran is my favorite character.
Yeah. But I kinda like the fact that he's just an ordinary man. Christopher said in an interview I read that he left Roran as just an ordinary man with no magic to show that even though he doesn't have the advantages of those with magic, he's still an awesome warrior. But it would be really awesome if he finally lifted the stone. :)
That's a good point. Roran with fireballs and the like would kind of defeat the point of him as a warrior.
Oh gosh. I have no idea. I love them all. Maybe Saphira.
