I just finished reading Unclaimed and Never Seduce a Scot and I just realize that I love stories with a damaged heroine and a strong and patient hero who helps her heal.

Other favorites on this theme are It Had to Be You and Then Came You. There seems to be a never ending supply of books with a damaged hero, but now I am desperate for recommendations of books with damaged heroines instead. Do you ladies have any great reads that you could recommend?

Desperado (lethallovely) Since I haven't read any of the books you listed, I'd have a better chance at helping you if you could give me a description of your idea of a "damaged heroine." Also, do the recs have to be strictly HR or do romances in other genres qualify?

message 3: by S (new)

S (booksstarsmoon) | 250 comments Any genres is fine with me (but paranormal is not my favorite but an occasional indulgence). In general I think I'm after books where the heroine might have been abused (It had to be you, Then came you), tragic past (Unclaimed) or disabled (Never seduce a scot) and a hero who is super sweet and understanding and helps the heroine heal by loving her.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) | 2140 comments Susanne, How to Romance a Rake (Ugly Ducklings #2) by Manda Collins by Manda Collins has a disabled heroine. It's book 2 in her Ugly Ducklings series but can be read as a standalone.

S (booksstarsmoon) | 250 comments Thanks Carol! That books sounds wonderful, just what I am after. I'll be off and order it, like right now. Lol!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Oh. I'll have to think on this one.

message 7: by S (new)

S (booksstarsmoon) | 250 comments Difficult right? There seems to be an abundance of books with damaged heroes but few with strong heroes and damaged heroines. That's why I needed some help xD

BTW - am I the only one who is attracted to strong, happy, patient, caring heroes?

message 8: by Shari (new)

Shari (svdgrijn) Right now I'm on the opposite kick. I read A Needful Heart and found myself drawn to the self-assured, confident heroine faced with the emotionally-crippled hero (a survivor of child abuse and aging out of foster care). Where I was tired of the disabled hero, I definitely enjoyed this take on a man who is trying to overcome this childhood without any type of family. Anyone familiar with any books about a hero or heroine overcoming the challenge of aging out of foster care with no family support system?

message 9: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (mimzi) | 9 comments I almost feel... silly? suggesting this but here goes: I recently read them and Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games is both damaged and strong and contrasts with her hero, Peeta Mellark. Although it' multi protaginist there's also Emily Gibson from Cloud of Sparrow/Autumn Bridge (and refreshingly, her hero Genji has an excellent reason for staying away at first). In the romance category, pretty much any Loretta Chase book. They are choc-a-bloc with strong and damaged heroines.

I think Callum & Harper fits that description. I haven't read it but people seem to like it.

Thanks! Off to check it out xD

Monique | 1 comments Phantom Waltz, Baby Love and sweet nothings are all by Catherine Anderson. Blue eyed devil by Lisa Kleypas and Never less than a lady by Mary Jo putney. All the ones I listed are a part of a series but can be read as stand alones. And I second that recommendation for It had to be you, its in my top ten all time favorites!

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits, #1) by Katie McGarry is YA, but has a heroine with very serious issues and though the hero is not much better himself, he tries to help her deal with them.

Midnight Angel (Midnight, #3) by Lisa Marie Rice , the heroine is blind and the hero's very protective of her.

Again the Magic (Wallflowers, #0.5) by Lisa Kleypas , a classic so perhaps you've read it already.

On Dublin Street by Samantha Young , a current bestseller features a damaged heroine.

S (booksstarsmoon) | 250 comments Thanks Monique and Fani for such a great set of recommendation! I have Again the Magic but I haven't gotten around to reading it, but now I will put it on top of my reading list. I haven't read anything by Catherine Anderson yet, but she's on my radar and I will definitively check those out. And the rest xD

Try
